Temu is an e-commerce website featuring deeply discounted consumer products online. Its name derives from the initials of its catchphrase, which states “Team Up, Price Down.” It operates through Whaleco Inc., a US firm incorporated in Boston and functioning as a subsidiary of PDD Holdings Inc. PDD Holdings, which was co-founded by Colin Huang, is a publicly listed corporation under the stock code PDD on NASDAQ and is legally based in Dublin, Ireland.
Customers get access to a variety of ready-made products including cell phone peripherals, cooking appliances, clothing, home goods, grooming aids, and solar energy lighting. The website's products target consumers in over 90 markets worldwide and provide inexpensive goods directly from third-party producers and suppliers.
The website was launched in September 2022 but rapidly developed its position among consumers after its launch. As a result, Temu was able to gain hundreds of millions of customers and app downloads globally. It became a strong competitor to traditional brands like Amazon.
