About Monkey
Monkey is an app that allows users to chat directly with strangers online through face-to-face video conversations. It was developed in California, USA, by teenage entrepreneurs Ben Pasternak and Isaiah Turner. In December 2017, it was acquired by its video-chat competitor, the app Holla.
Users can participate in 15-second face-to-face video chats, send direct text messages, view user-created video shorts in the app’s Moments section, find people interested in similar topics through hashtags, and purchase a premium subscription called “Monkey Plus.”
Monkey Plus unlocks features such as Knock-Knock texting, Duo or Group chatting, and additional matching filters. The app is primarily used by young people seeking to meet new people and make friends. Together, the two apps have more than 20 million total installs.
