About 読書メーター
Bookmeter, or 読書メーター in Japanese, is an online community designed especially for reading and book-management activities in Japan. This service was developed and is managed by BOOKWALKER Co., Ltd., which belongs to Dwango and KADOKAWA Corporation. Bookmeter was opened to Internet users in May 2008.
With this platform, visitors can create a personal virtual bookshelf, add any book by scanning its barcode, see automatically created graphs showing how many books they have read during a given period, and find more than 18 million brief reviews of different books written by other visitors. Moreover, this website allows users to participate in community activities and receive information about new books released by their favorite authors.
The majority of Bookmeter users are concentrated in Japan and consist of people who are interested in reading different books. With the help of the website, visitors manage their reading activity and prevent themselves from buying duplicate copies of books.
